Happy national chocolate milk shake day! In honor of this holiday, we are sharing the best foods and drinks to consume post oral surgery (of course that includes chocolate milk shakes).
Best Beverages & Foods to Consume After Wisdom Teeth Removal
After getting your wisdom teeth removed, it is important to refrain from eating hard or chewy substances. Your mouth needs time to heal. With a sore jaw and open wounds in your mouth, a lot of patients opt for consuming liquids or very soft foods.
Here are our favorite beverages we would recommend after you get your wisdom teeth removed:
- Chocolate milk shake (obviously)
- Fruit Smoothie
- Apple Sauce
- Canned Peaches
Foods to AVOID Post Oral Surgery
Every person’s healing process is different. Some people may feel comfortable resuming their normal eating habits after only 24-48 hours. No matter how good you feel, please refrain from eating the following foods three days post-surgery:
- Spicy foods
- Steak, or chewy poultry
If you consume these types of foods, you risk getting an infection or developing dry sockets. In addition, refrain from drinking fluids with a straw for at least three days post-surgery. Drinking with a straw could dislodge your blood clots and you’ll increase your chances of getting dry sockets.
